TUL Corporation ha annunciato la prima video card di classe Radeon R9 290X in grado di vantare la dotazione di un sistema di raffreddamento esclusivamente a liquido. Siglata PowerColor LCS R9 290X, la nuova proposta di TUL si colloca agevolmente al top della linea di schede grafiche high-end e factory-overclocked Powercolor LCS.

Il core grafico della gpu Radeon R9 290X di cui la card è dotata lavora in condizioni di default a 1060MHz, evidenziando quindi una frequenza di clock di base superiore di 60MHz a quella tipica delle R9 290X reference. In maniera analoga anche il frame buffer è spinto oltre i parametri standard dallo stesso costrutture.

I 4GB di RAM G-DDR5 della PowerColor LCS R9 290X sono infatti caratterizzati da una frequenza di clock fisica pari a 1350MHz, superiore di 100MHz rispetto a quella del frame buffer di una R9 290X reference; il bus che interconnette il processore grafico alla memoria locale è naturalmente a 512-bit.

Il sistema di raffreddamento a liquido della PowerColor LCS R9 290X è realizzato dal partner EK Water Blocks: TUL pone in rilievo che la base è realizzata in rame nichelato, e inoltre che il design del water block garantisce il raffreddamento, con elevata efficienza, di tutte le aree critiche per la stabilità.

L'effetto netto è una temperatura di esercizio sempre al di sotto della soglia dei 60°C in ogni condizioni di utilizzo, e quindi anche a pieno carico. La PowerColor LCS R9 290X assorbe potenza dalla PSU attraverso un connettore PCI-E a 8-pin e uno a 6-pin, mentre il segnale viene inviato alle device di output con l'ausilio di quattro connettori (due dual-link DVI, uno HDMI e uno DP).
