Sony Computer Entertainment Europe ha annunciato, mediante il comunicato stampa allegato di seguito, una espansione della linea Playstation 2 destinata al mercato europeo. A partire dall'8 Novembre sarà infatti possibile acquistare nei migliori negozi una PS2 in edizione limitata fortemente caratterizzata dalla colorazione in rosa non solo del case ma anche dei due controller analogici (DUALSHOCK 2) e della memory card da 8Mb che completano la dotazione base della console.

L'esordio in Europa della Pink PlayStation 2 avverrà presso la Games Convention di Leipzig, che si terrà dal 23 al 27 Agosto in territorio tedesco.

Sony fa inoltre sapere che dalla data di lancio (Novembre 2000) ad oggi il numero di console vendute nel mercato europeo ha quasi raggiunto quota 40 milioni.

London, Monday 21st August 2006 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced the expansion of the PlayStation2 line-up in Europe with the introduction of a new colour.

The new, limited edition Pink PlayStation 2 will be available from selected retailers throughout Europe from 8th November 2006 and will come complete with two Pink Analog Controller (DUALSHOCK2) and a Pink Memory Card (8MB) (for PlayStation 2).

Following the increasingly widespread appeal of PlayStation 2, through the popularity of socially interactive games such as BUZZ and SingStar, the decision to produce a Pink console reflects the growing and diverse demographic that PlayStation 2 has developed.

“PlayStation 2 is the accessible, affordable way to enjoy new social, communal and interactive entertainment experiences, through software titles like SingStar, Buzz and EyeToy”, said Dan Hill, PlayStation 2 European Brand Manager. “The Pink PlayStation 2 is funky, fresh, and fashionable, and will further broaden the console’s continuing popularity and relevance with a fun new twist”.

The new Pink PlayStation 2 will make its debut European appearance on the Sony Computer Entertainment Stand at Games Convention, Leipzig, 23 – 27th August 2006.

Since its European launch in November 2000, sales of the PlayStation 2 console to consumers in the SCEE territories have reached almost 40 million units.
