These release notes address late-breaking issues and information about this release candidate of the Microsoft Windows Vista™ operating system. Unless otherwise specified, these notes apply to all versions and editions of Windows Vista. Accessibility
BackupThe backup application in this version of Windows Vista uses a different directory structure from that used in Windows Vista Beta 2 versions prior to 5357. If you use the backup application in this RC 1 version to back up files to the same pre-5357 location, you will not be able to restore the files. To avoid this, do one of the following prior to backing up files:
2007 Microsoft Office SystemIf you are upgrading from previous versions of Microsoft Windows, or a prerelease version of Windows Vista, and your computer has the beta 2 version of 2007 Microsoft Office system installed (build 4017), you must install the following update: Beta 2 Technical Refresh Update for 2007 Microsoft Office System. We recommend that you install the update before you upgrade, but you can also install it after you upgrade. To download the update, search the Microsoft Download Center (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=71304) for "2007 Microsoft Office system." If this update is not available yet, you can proceed with upgrading your operating system and install it when it becomes available. No other previous versions of 2007 Microsoft Office system are supported on this version of Windows Vista. SecurityBitLocker Drive EncryptionWhen a TPM-equipped computer wakes from hibernation, the TPM may not successfully wake along with the rest of the system. In this circumstance, the wizard used to enable BitLocker Drive Encryption will request a startup key. If this occurs, cancel the wizard, restart the computer, and confirm that TPM is enabled. Windows FirewallWindows Firewall will be turned on after you install this version of Windows Vista even if you disabled it before upgrading. If you use a non-Microsoft firewall product, you should contact the firewall manufacturer to ensure that it is compatible with Windows Vista before disabling Windows Firewall. Windows Media Digital Rights ManagementSome media may not function correctly after upgrading from Windows Vista Beta 2 to this version of Windows Vista. For example, when you try to play premium content that is protected by Windows Media Digital Rights Management, you may be prompted to reacquire licenses from the Internet. This includes content from online music services and pay-per-view video services. In addition, if you are running Windows Vista Ultimate, you may receive a "restricted content" error when you try to watch any TV content that was previously recorded. To avoid this, install Update for Windows Vista Beta 2 (KB922917) (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=47290). If you did not install this update before you upgraded, you may be able to obtain new licenses for music that you purchased online by contacting the online service directly. However, you will not be able to fix this issue for protected and recorded TV content if you did not install the update installing this version of Windows Vista.
