Virtual CD v9 - New functions
Vista-compatible: "Certified for Windows Vista"
Virtual CD v9 has a certified driver, just as its predecessors did. In Vista, VCD 9 attains the highest possible certification level: "Certified for Windows Vista."
Incremental extension of images
Technical data can be added to existing VCD images; for example, the CD geometry can be added without having to create the entire image all over again.
Fast access to Toolbox programs
All programs in the Toolbox can be made available through desktop shortcuts, for more direct access.
Smart Virtual CD drives now compatible with USB flash drives
Starting with version 9, the Smart Virtual CD function is no longer limited to optical media, but can also be used with other removable storage media as well. This feature can be used, for example, to store mountable drives on USB flash memory drives or similar media.
Unlimited number of virtual burners
In order to enable future use of the encrypted DVD-RAM drive with multiple virtual burners simultaneously, or in parallel with a virtual burner, all virtual drives can now be used as burners, starting with Virtual CD v9.
Comparison Wizard
The new Comparison Wizard makes it possible to compare a physical CD to an image, for example, to make sure an image matches it source, or compare two images to one another to see whether they are identical.
Improved Quick Start utility
The Quick Start utility is now available in the shortcut menu of any physical drive. This makes it easier than ever to run the main Virtual CD tasks (such as One-Click copy, 1:1 copy and others).
Snapshot function
A new feature in Virtual CD v9 is the innovative Snapshot function. This feature "takes a picture" of all virtual drives, showing which virtual CDs are in which drives and which virtual drives are empty. The resulting snapshot can be used to re-create this state at any time, without the trouble of writing a script.
Grouping function
Now, in addition to options for sorting images into user-defined folders, images can be grouped according to certain criteria.
Job Execution
The new Job Execution function integrated in Virtual CD v9 makes it easy to automate functions for creating images. This is particularly useful for creating several virtual CDs at once. The only user action left to perform is changing physical media; no settings or other input are required.
Job Execution supports the following Virtual CD modules:
- Image Writer
- 1 to 1 Burner
- File Burner
- Image Converter
- Copy Wizard
- SVCD Burner
Furthermore, programs from other manufacturers can be linked in jobs, as long as they can be called from the command line.
For example, the first task in a job could write DRM-protected song tracks in a virtual CD for personal use, and the subsequent task could read out the tracks without DRM protection, with no further user action required.
Extended options for creating images
- Permit overwriting
Starting immediately, a new image can optionally overwrite an existing image from the same source, rather than having a sequential number added to the new image's name and retaining the old image.
- Create ISO images using copy templates
With Virtual CD v9, ISO-compliant images can be created not only by manually configuring the required settings in the Image Writer, but also using a copy template.
Support for any physical CD drive
Starting with Virtual CD v9, the use of a physical drive for images is not restricted to the first drive. With this VCD version, images can be inserted in any physical CD-ROM drive.
