Il produttore californiano Super Talent Technology ha annunciato una nuova linea di DIMM DDR3, di tipo RDIMM e UDIMM, realizzate in accordo al form factor Very Low Profile (VLP).

I nuovi moduli, dettagliati in termini di part number, descrizione commerciale e tensione di polarizzazione nella tabella inclusa nella prima delle immagini che seguono, implementano quindi un formato le cui dimensioni sono inferiori a quelle standard.

Ne consegue che il circuito stampato delle nuove VLP è basato su un substrato (in gergo FR4) realizzato con il 38% di materiale FR4 in meno rispetto al design standard ed un simile aspetto è senza dubbio fondamentale dal punto di vista dello smaltimento del prodotto e quindi in relazione all'impatto ambientale.

Le nuove DIMM di DDR3 sono inoltre in grado di vantare anche un consumo di potenza più basso di quello correlato con le soluzioni standard, il che consente anche di ridurre i costi relativi al raffreddamento dell'hardware.

A seconda della tipologia delle nuove DIMM VLP, esse sono utilizzabili sia in abbinamento alle motherboard x86 per il mercato consumer che alle piastre destinate alla implementazione di sistemi server nel comparto small business e enterprise.

These DIMMS use 38% less FR4 material and are designed to JEDEC standard schematics. They can be used in standard based x86 motherboards while blade servers and ATCA applications can make use of the very low profile RDIMMS.
