AMD ha lanciato oggi la GPU per notebook denominata Radeon HD 8970M, una nuova soluzione nell'ambito dei prodotti basati sull'architettura Graphics Core Next (GCN) che il maker statunitense definisce come la sezione grafica per notebook più veloce al mondo in base a test interni con cui sono state misurate come riferimento le performance della GeForce GTX 680M di NVIDIA.
La nuova Radeon HD 8970M è stata progettata da AMD per fornire le massime prestazioni in ambito gaming, da un lato, e per minimizzare il consumo di potenza, e aumentare la durata della batteria, dall'altro. La nuova gpu supporta infatti la tecnologia proprietaria Enduro Technology, oltre a Microsoft DirectX 11.1 e AMD Eyefinity, attraverso le quali è possibile giocare al meglio con i game di ultima generazione, anche in modalità multi-monitor.
Tra i produttori di notebook che hanno adottato il nuovo prodotto di AMD vi è MSI, che ha equipaggiato il suo portatile MSI GX70 con la Radeon HD 8970M.
