Kingston, azienda tradizionalmente nota per la produzione di memorie DRAM e Flash, è pronta a proporre ai consumatori la sua prima soluzione nell'ambito dei Personal Media Player (i rappresentati più noti di questa categoria sono l'iPod di Apple, lo Zen di Creative e il prossimo Zune di Microsoft, ndr). Kingston ha infatti annunciato di recente, mediante il comunicato stampa allegato alla notizia, la realizzazione e la disponibilità sul mercato del player K-PEX 100 (cfr. foto seguente).

Le feature principali di questo dispositivo sono la capacità di memorizzazione pari a 1Gb o 2Gb, il display LCD TFT da 2", lo slot per le memory card di tipo miniSD, il sintonizzatore radio FM, il supporto dei formati audio mp3, wav, wma e ogg e del formato video MPX. K-PEX 100 include un visualizzatore di immagini (foto) e testo.

Il Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) ovvero il prezzo per l'utente finale suggerito dalla stessa Kingston è di $129.99 per la versione da 1Gb e di $179.99 per quella da 2Gb.

With its highly stylized design and ultra-slim form factor, K-PEX (Kingston Personal Entertainment experience) allows users to watch videos, listen to music, play video games and store/view photographs. The Kingston K-PEX is currently available in the North America, Latin America and Asia/Pacific Rim.

With the launch of K-PEX, Kingston is leveraging its 18-year leadership position in the memory module market to bring new Portable Media Player technologies to market.

Kingston’s K-PEX will be available with embedded memory capacities of 1 GB and 2 GB and will provide a miniSD slot for easy downloads of music, video and photographs directly onto the memory card. K-PEX will be available as a complete kit and include a USB 2.0 cable, USB host cable, line-in cable, earphones, transcoder software CD, protective cover, lanyard, comprehensive user manual, and quick start guide. As a special promotion, Kingston will ship the first 4k 2GB players bundled with a Free Kingston miniSD card. K-PEX will have a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $129.99 (1 GB) and $179.99 (2 GB).

The new portable media player, with its super-slim, lightweight design, makes it easy and convenient to transport for use on planes, in the car, at home or in the office. The new PMP offers a number of unique features including a multi-region FM radio. Its high resolution, 2-inch color LCD video screen makes viewing videos and photographs easy on the eyes. Measuring 3.7 x 1.8 x .57-inches and weighing a mere 2.2 ounces, the new K-PEX Personal Media Player can playback most popular formats including MP3, WMA, OGG and WAV audio; MPEG 1&2, AVI, WMV and ASF video, JPEG image formats, and TXT documents.
