Far Cry 4 non è stato ancora rilasciato da Ubisoft, tuttavia sono già on line le release notes delle prime due patch, v. 1.1.0 e 1.2.0, dedicate alla edizione per PC dello shooter, che aggiorneranno in maniera significativa Far Cry 4, introducendo un ampio set di correzioni, subito dopo la disponibilità dello stesso sul mercato.

Far Cry 4 è stato sviluppato presso gli studi di Ubisoft Montreal: questa software house ha collaborato con altri centri di sviluppo in orbita Ubisoft, come Ubisoft Red Storm, Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Shanghai e Ubisoft Kiev.
Sono state pianificate cinque edizioni del titolo dedicate alle piattaforme di gioco PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 e Xbox One. Far Cry 4, che è già prenotabile on line, sarà disponibile a partire dal 18 novembre in Europa e Nord America, e dal 20 dello stesso mese in Australia.
