Seoul -- December 5, 2005 --At a ceremony attended by Dae-je Chin, Ph.D., Korean Minister of Information and Communication, and Hector Ruiz, AMD chairman of the board, president, and chief executive officer, AMD today announced the opening of Korea Technology Development Center, a research and development resource for local customers and partners to create low-power, high-performance embedded processor platforms for advanced digital consumer devices.

Located at AMD Korea headquarters in Seoul, the Korea Technology Development Center (KTDC) will be led by HB Kim, with expansion of engineering resources planned by the end of 2006. AMD expects to help customers develop customized embedded processor platforms for various digital consumer devices including WiBro terminals, Digital Media Broadcast solutions, Personal Media Players, HDTV, and Internet access solutions. The center will focus on helping local partners reduce costs and accelerate time-to-market when developing next-generation digital consumer devices based on AMD embedded processors.

“Korea’s well-developed network infrastructure, advanced mobile technologies and excellent IT manpower make it one of AMD’s most strategic markets for development of innovative computing platforms,” Ruiz said. “AMD’s Korea Technology Development Center demonstrates our deep and ongoing commitment to Korea and our valued partners here, and can support local design of industry-leading digital consumer devices.”

“AMD’s x86 embedded processor technology, which is well matched to the Korean government’s ‘IT 839’ strategy, helps local partners significantly enhance their competitive edges for performance and features in new digital and mobile devices,” said YJ Park, vice president and general manager of AMD Korea. “By opening the KTDC, AMD Korea will provide local customers with a range of embedded processor platform options to meet their unique needs.”
