AMD ha annunciato ufficialmente la fornitura a Apple delle gpu professionali FirePro D300, FirePro D500 e FirePro D700, le quali equipaggiano i nuovi desktop di fascia alta nell'ambito della linea Mac Pro.
Apple ha scelto tipicamente di ricorrere a due delle gpu menzionate più sopra per ciascuno dei suoi nuovi Mac Pro: l'opzione più spinta sia dal punto di vista delle prestazioni che del prezzo coincide con quella che prevede il ricorso a due gpu AMD FirePro D700.
In tal caso, ogni FirePro D700 integra 2048 stream processor e scambia dati con 6GB di memoria VRAM G-DDR5 attraverso un bus a 384-bit, mentre la banda di memoria è pari a 264GB/s e la potenza di calcolo a 3.5 teraflop (per cui il valore combinato raggiunge i 7 teraflop).
Delle gpu FirePro D300, FirePro D500 e FirePro D700 AMD esalta il pieno supporto delle OpenCL (Open Computing Language), oltre che delle OpenGL, in ambiente Apple OS X Mavericks. Ma anche la possibilità di modificare i video con risoluzione 4K senza problematica alcuna, e di alimentare fino a tre display con risoluzione 4K.

The dual AMD FirePro GPU options for Mac Pro feature up to 6GB of VRAM and up to 2048 stream processors per GPU, matched with top configurations capable of up to 7 teraflops of computing power. OpenGL and OpenCL are optimized in OS X Mavericks to leverage the full computing power of the Mac Pro and dual GPUs.
